A man was killed and another injured in a shooting in Sevran, Seine-Saint-Denis, during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, according to police reports. The victim, a 34-year-old man, was found in cardiorespiratory arrest after being struck by three bullets, including to the head and chest. His body was transported to the hospital under police escort.
Investigators discovered a sawed-off pump-action shotgun in the same alley of the Rougemont housing estate where the homicide occurred, which police believe may be the weapon used in the shooting. A second man with a gunshot wound to the hand was dropped off at emergency services in a vehicle that was later recovered by authorities.
Two individuals have been placed in police custody in connection with the incident, including one who presented with a gunshot wound to the hand. The Bobigny prosecutor's office indicated that initial investigation elements suggest the events occurred against a backdrop of drug trafficking. The deceased victim was known to police for drug trafficking offenses.
Sevran Mayor Stéphane Blanchet expressed sharing "the concern of residents and their deep desire to restore peace in the neighborhood." The mayor noted that while national police are acting, he wishes for them to have more resources, having previously requested a full-service police station for Sevran. The investigation has been assigned to the Seine-Saint-Denis departmental judicial police service.
