French Transport Unions Plan Limited Strike Action for October 2

02-10-2025

French transport services are expected to experience minimal disruptions during the national mobilization called by major trade unions for October 2. Following unsuccessful negotiations with Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, unions have organized the protest action, though early indications suggest limited impact on transportation networks across the country. The outgoing Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot convened meetings with key transport operators including SNCF Voyageurs, SNCF Réseau, RATP, Transdev, ADP, DGAC, and DGITM to assess potential service disruptions.

High-speed rail services will operate largely as normal, with TGV and OUIGO trains maintaining regular schedules according to SNCF and government assessments. Minor exceptions include cancellations on the Clermont-Paris route, specifically the 8:28 AM departure from Clermont-Ferrand and the 4:00 PM and 6:57 PM departures from Paris. Intercity services between Lyon-Nantes and Marseille-Bordeaux are expected to experience some disruptions, while the Paris-Clermont Ferrand and Paris-Limoges-Toulouse routes will see only minor service adjustments.

Regional transport services will see varying levels of disruption across different networks. TER regional trains will experience some service modifications, with the most significant impacts anticipated in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Occitanie regions where traffic will be "heavily disrupted." Moderate disruptions are expected in Centre-Val de Loire, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Grand Est (excluding Alsace), and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur regions, while Brittany, Hauts-de-France, and Normandy will experience only minor service adjustments. Bourgogne-Franche-Comté is expected to maintain normal TER operations.

In the Paris region, RATP anticipates "no notable impact" on metro, tramway, and bus networks overall. RER A and B lines are expected to operate nearly normally, while RER C and Transilien H will experience slight disruptions. More significant service challenges are forecast for RER D (which will be "heavily disrupted"), RER E, and Transilien L, N, R, U lines, along with some bus services in the greater Paris area. Air transport is expected to function normally throughout the mobilization period.
